President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he is resuming work stronger and more energetic
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he is resuming work stronger and more energetic. The president stated this while fielding questions from State House correspondents on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after a vacation in London. President Buhari, jokingly, challenged one of the correspondents, who asked him of his state of health, to a wrestling competition. “You have seen me, you saw me when I was going, you can do the assessment by yourself. “You can see me inspecting the guards of honour, if you want to wrestle me, you can do so, but you know I’m taller than you,’’ the president told the reporter. The president, who was clad in a light brown kaftan with a cap to match, did not use the helicopter meant to transport him to the presidential villa, but rather embarked on road journey. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presidential plane carrying the president landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 5.32 p.m. Members of the Federal Executive Council, Service Chiefs, Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari and Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase were among those who welcomed President Buhari at the airport. Others at the airport were Gov. Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara, Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi and other government functionaries
Emeka Ike blasts TVC presenter (video)
Veteran Nollywood actor and Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), President Emeka Ike after mourning late Nigerian music star OJB Jezreel, blasted TVC presenter for asking him questions about his wife during a live interview.
Emeka Ike shut down TVC presenter who he felt pushed him too hard about questions of his home, especially his wife following their messy split and the domestic violence allegations levied against him in the past few months. During the live interview on Entertainment Splash, the presenter asked the Nollywood actor about his home and he disclosed that he and his wife are very well together as the presenter pushed harder saying: “You mean your wife is back home?” but Emeka Ike could not contain the question as he fired back at her saying: “It’s not your business, we are working things out and the thing is this, whatever it is we keep working on things and keep sorting things out because you are not going to give up on something you love.” It could be recalled that, Emeka Ike and his wife Emma in 2014, it was reported that the couple had split due to issues of domestic violence charges, before she finally filed for a divorce in 2015 and the case was adjourned to July 22, 2015 but we are yet to hear anything form the case.
Fashola Promise to complete the ongoing projects within three years
Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola says the Federal Government is committed to finishing all ongoing projects within three years.
Fashola gave the assurance on Saturday evening after inspecting work at the Loko-Oweto Bridge over River Benue which connects Loko and Oweto communities in Nasarawa State and Benue respectively.
He said that the Federal Government would make funds available to pay contractors as soon as they delivered completed projects.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria and President Muhammadu Buhari have expressed very clear commitment to finish the ongoing and abandoned projects.
“We are focusing on completion of ongoing projects; this is one of the many ongoing projects.
“Lagos-Ibadan expressway is one of them; Kano-Maiduguri is one of them; Ilorin-Jebba is one of them and the Second Niger Bridge is one of them.
“All those projects now, the contractors are moving back to sites and work is beginning. Gradually over the next three years we would complete many of them’’, the minister said.
Fashola expressed the confidence that the resumption of construction activities would stimulate expansion of infrastructure, create jobs and generate commercial opportunities for the people.
He said when completed, the Loko-Oweto Bridge would boost socio-economic activities in Nasarawa State and Benue.
“You will see those who lost their jobs; they would come back to work. You would see increased merchandising and supply of building materials.
“When this project is completed, it would open up these communities; connect Nasarawa State and Benue; farmers would benefit from the movement and transportation of their farm produce.
“I am optimistic that we would get this project completed in 2018,’’ Fashola noted.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Loko-Oweto Bridge contract was awarded to RCC Nig. Ltd. in November 2011 at N36. 1 billion with original completion date of Nov. 15, 2015.
The project was stalled in 2014 due to lack of funding and currently, at a revised contract sum of N51.6 billion, the project is scheduled for completion in 2018.
MY VICTORY, A COLLECTIVE ONE
Godwin Obaseki, APC governorship candidate for Edo State
Mr Godwin Obaseki, winner of Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Edo, said his victory was a collective one for him, his co-contestants and the delegates.
In the result of the primaries announced in the early hours of Sunday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, venue of the exercise, Obaseki scored 1,618 votes to clinch victory.
He defeated 11 contestants, including his closest rival, Dr Pius Odubu, the Deputy Governor of the state, who polled 471 votes.
The result was announced by Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina state, Chairman of the committee charged with the conduct of the election.
In his acceptance speech after the announcement, Obaseki urged his co-contestants to work with him to achieve victory for APC in the Sept. 10 governorship election in the state,
According to him, the primary election was only the first leg of other challenges ahead.
“The delegates were true heroes of democracy. They have shown that indeed, democracy has evolved and far more sophisticated than they have been given credit for.
“We have collectively decided who will fly the flag of our great party in Edo. My greatest encouragement in this race was my co-contestants, this array of accomplished individuals, including the deputy governor, Dr Pius Odubu.
“I am indeed humbled by my nomination, but I will like to state that this is our collective victory.
“As a party, we must continue to work as a team to deliver victory at the Sept.10 governorship election. But, let me assure you that we will win,” he said.
The party’s nominee said that the state had commenced another journey into a brighter future, “a future which will define the state as a modern and progressive state where every citizen is provided with opportunity to live life to its fullness”.
He promised to build on the successes of Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
In his remarks, Masari, who presented the Certificate of Return to Obaseki, urged those who participated in the primaries to regard themselves as winners and not losers.
He said that together the aspirants could and would make Edo and Nigeria better.
“For those who are not lucky to be the flag bearer this time around, they should get ready; four years in the life of a nation is so small, even in the life of an individual.
“In politics, we have to learn to accept defeat and prepare for the next election.
“May I appeal to the winner also to be magnanimous in victory because this is the first leg.
“The second and most important is the general election, where you need the support of not only the members of APC, but also other people of Edo State.
“For this reason, I call on you to extend the hands of fellowship to your fellow contestants.
“And, for the contestants, take solace that it is only God that decides and who chooses who to lead in a particular time,” Masari said.
He said that the committee adhered strictly to the rules and guideline provided by the party in the conduct of the primaries.
The APC primaries which started at about 9 a.m. with accreditation on Saturday came to a conclusion at about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Dogara tells US to prove sex misconduct allegations.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has asked the American government to provide foolproof evidence that three Nigerian lawmakers indeed committed sexual crimes. Mohammed Gololo (APC-Bauchi State) was accused of grabbing a hotel maid and soliciting sex, while two others, Samuel Ikon (PDP-Akwa Ibom) and Mark Gbillah (APC-Benue State) allegedly requested a car park attendant to help them arrange the services of prostitutes during a visit to Cleveland for the International Visitor Leadership Programme.
The American Ambassador in Nigeria James Entwistle contained the allegations in a June 9 petition to Mr Dogara. The three lawmakers denied the allegations separately, describing them as totally false and disgraceful. In a series of tweets on Saturday, Mr Dogara commented on the allegations as the issue had created a storm on social media. “He who alleges must prove. That’s the law,” he said.
“As we speak no evidence has been put forward other than the letter sent to my office and copied to many others. “Together with the US Embassy in Nigeria we will get to the bottom of this matter and until then let’s not be judgmental. “Under our laws an accused person is deemed innocent until proven guilty and he enjoys the benefit of any doubt. “Social media trial and conviction of members alleged to have committed the offence is taking up arms against our laws,” tweeted an “awfully embarrassed.” On the alleged attempted rape of a hotel room keeper by Mr Gololo, Mr Dogara said the US Ambassador did make reference to that in his letter, saying Mr Gololo was accused of grabbing the room keeper and soliciting sex.

They angels are bringing you back in their wings,” he said. “We pray for our President and anyone that is suffering such a dangerous disease. If you are ready for testimony, my God is ready with miracles.” President Buhari was expected to arrive back in Nigeria today (Sunday) and are awaiting confirmation.
